What Kind of Cabinets Should You Consider in Your Fix-and-Flip Kitchen Project?

Whether you’re a first-time real estate investor or you’ve been doing it for decades, you probably already know that the kitchen is one of the most important parts of any successful fix-and-flip project. In order to get the most out of your project, you’ll need to improve the kitchen layout, furnish it with the right appliances, and even install the right cabinets and accessories.

Blue, Gray, and White are Trending

When you think of kitchen cabinets, you probably think of stained wood or white. These are the most common finishes because they seem to go well with just about any kind of home décor, which makes them ideal for what is often one of the largest rooms in the home. However, blues and grays are the new trends, and more homeowners than ever before love the calm, cool, and peaceful look they can create. Ideally, you’ll want to stick to muted blues and grays for your fix-and-flip projects as too-bright colors might turn buyers off.

The Most Appealing Finishes

For a while, high-gloss kitchen cabinets were extremely popular among homeowners. The shine provided a “clean” appearance that everyone seemed to love. Recently, however, the gloss has taken a backseat to matte finishes and raw wood grain is making a comeback, too. The choice you make will depend on several other factors, such as the color of the walls and the flooring you’ll install, but staying away from high-gloss cabinets is your best bet.

Hidden (or Minimal) Hardware

Though the hardware on kitchen cabinetry can be absolutely stunning, homeowners find that it’s difficult to clean and can sometimes detract from the clean, streamlined look they’re trying to create. That’s why hidden hardware is by far the best way to go. Many of today’s cabinets have mechanisms that allow them to open with a gentle push on the corner, thereby eliminating the need for external hardware. If you prefer to install traditional handles and knobs, think minimal – and try to make sure the hardware blends in with the color of the cabinets, too.

Extra-Large Drawers

It’s been said that no amount of kitchen storage space is ever enough, but homeowners have discovered that having extra-large drawers is pretty close. With large drawers they can utilize, homeowners can organize their kitchens the way they choose. Sometimes, these drawers are perfect for things like baking sheets and muffin tins; if the drawers are large enough and separate from the food prep area, they could even be used to hide the refuse container.

Open-Framed Cabinets

Finally, open-framed cabinets bridge the gap between traditional open shelves and kitchen cabinets. They have doors, but the front of the doors are made with glass so that homeowners can see the things stored inside. This is perfect for displaying fine china and barware, which is always a plus, and the open-frame cabinet can also help balance a kitchen if one wall feels too “busy”.

There’s no doubt that kitchens are one of the most important rooms for you to focus on during your home renovation projects, and though you might not spend a lot of time thinking about cabinets, they’re actually one of the most important features in the home. These ideas are sure to help you please potential buyers and get the best possible price for your fix-and-flip project.
